Kicker: Grandpa gone viral

MARY REICHARD, HOST: You’re never too old to learn something new, they say.

Well, a gentleman in Chicago caught the attention of a studio owner on the southside who caters to the young. But the owner took one listen and then took to social media to tout his talented senior find.

DUBOIS: Arthur Dubois, makin’ beats. Seventy-two years old.

Yes, Arthur Dubois is the grandfather of teenagers. But he used his extra time is retirement to teach himself hip-hop. Which involved learning two new things: music and computers.

And now that he’s getting popular, he tells NPR he’s   learning social media, too, what with his new Instagram and Twitter accounts.

DUBOIS: I broke down and cried because I didn’t know that many people liked me.

Evidence that music can bring us together.

It’s The World and Everything in It.
