Kicker: Tortoise on the loose

NICK EICHER, HOST: It can be a challenge chasing down a lost dog or cat.

But a woman in New Mexico is searching for a pet that shouldn’t be hard that hard (a) to catch or (b) to spot. We’re talking about a hundred pound tortoise named Dusty.

Shana Emmert has a fenced backyard, perfect for keeping Dusty close by. So she offered while her niece was moving to keep the tortoise for her. Here’s Emmert talking with the local TV station KOB.

EMMERT: He’s kind of big so you can’t miss him. So I went over to the gate and I realized it was unlatched.

She believes strong winds may have rattled the latch on the gate, leaving it cracked open.

Dusty’s been in the family for nearly 20 years and they are offering a $500 dollar reward for his safe return.
