Kicker: Remembering Grumpy Cat

NICK EICHER, HOST: The Grumpy Cat will live forever on the internet. Alas, though, not in real life.

I hear you, another animal story. But this is big news.

The Grumpy Cat was an online cottage industry, spawning hundreds of internet memes, and she has died.

Grumpy was a blue-check verified account, with 8 million Facebook followers, 2-and-a-half million on Instagram, a million-and-a-half on Twitter. She appeared in TV commercials and a movie.

The Grumpy Cat even made it into political culture. Here’s former President Obama poking fun at his humorless political opponents.

OBAMA: They’re gloomy. They’re like Grumpy Cat.

The feline’s net worth was never disclosed, but in 2013, her owners did say it was six figures.

Maybe this is evidence money can’t buy a happy disposition.
