Kicker: If you build it

NICK EICHER, HOST: Thirty years ago the fictional character Ray Kinsella took a leap of faith.

AUDIO: People will come, Ray. They’ll come to Iowa for reasons they can’t even fathom.

Yeah, Field of Dreams. Actor Kevin Costner playing the role of a farmer who plowed under his valuable corn crop and built a baseball diamond instead.

Build it and they will come, he hears over and over. And the people did come in the movie.

And in real life, too. They kept coming through the years to visit the Iowa farm where much of the movie was filmed.

And now Major League Baseball is building its own field of dreams—a temporary 8,000 seat stadium in that very same corn field. And next year, on August 13th, the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox will play a regular season game on that field.

Major League Baseball has no doubt that if they build it, people will come.
